Emmsma Daily Draw: 6/19/10 - King of Staves

He sits on his throne - which has 2 carved angels supporting his seat. He is crowned and wears a purple robe. There is a cross at his throat. He holds a staff in his left hand and palm leaves in his right. He has only one wing, also on his right, bearing feathers of gold. Behind him, above his head is a tapestry with a golden silhouette of a rearing lion.

At either side of his throne is a small drum. Above the right drum, an anchor hangs. At his feet lies an open book. To its right, a snake eats its tail. To its left, a broken vessel.

The king is a man in control :

- fierce as the lion, which is his symbol

-ready to take action, soaring on his powerful golden wings
I believe his second wing is folded and out of sight, to show that he is not over-eager to fly off. He will act when it is the right thing to do.

-he is grounded and sensible (anchor)

-knowledgeable (book)

The palm fronds he holds recall to me the story of Jesus - welcomed into town as a king - the people laying a path of palms on the ground for him to walk on.

This king is no tyrant. He is well loved by his people.

The snake and broken jar? Nothing can be all good, and so these warnings:

Do not allow yourself to be consumed by the events and situations in which you find yourself.

The jar may illustrate my inability to hold anything back in reserve, or save.
